Peter Chisholm "The Lemon Tree"

“The Lemon Tree is extremely moving”

Lesley Toll: THE DAILY MAIL

“I finished Paul Bura’s novel PETER CHISHOLM ‘The Lemon Tree’ and LOVED it! The strange thing was that I didn’t to begin with, there was a bit of a struggle and resistance. But then I realised that because of the effect it had on my mind it allowed me to go beyond my mind and into a different space altogether; like a code that unlocked it. I don’t know whether Paul Bura engineered it that way or whether it was just me as the reader, but anyway, suddenly I was caught up in this beautiful and magic adult fairy tale, which lead me on an inner journey from 3 dimensional to 4 dimensional experience (becoming balanced), without realising it. It was like coming home. The story was like a big warm hug! Chapter 40 & 41 was very moving and I loved the ending! (Epilogue). Such a wealth of love.”

“I came to the end - or was it another beginning? - of Peter Chisholm’s journey this morning. It’s the first time I have read something with my heart rather than my mind. I felt it all: the wind on my face as he sailed Leucathea, the savouring of Mara’s scrambled eggs and warm bread, the explosion on my taste buds of Niko’s rich, sweet coffee, the powerful yet gentle energy of the vortex, the power in the sound when the fish were called, the tugging of the ‘will’, the wrenching of separation – the joy of reunion – and mostly the unbounded laughter from the belly and the deep healing of The Lemon Tree. Now I am left with a yearning to learn more about this dimension. Somehow the shallow aspect of life that I was so close to buying into no longer holds its appeal and I feel a deep need for the gentle depths. I felt that love weave its way in and out of the lines of this book and whenever I put it down I felt like I was stepping out of a refreshing shower and I had the fragrance of fresh lemons all about me.

Thank you Peter Chisholm for this gift of yours. I know I am in need of much healing and that is why Paul Bura’s book came to me.”

“I read the novel with great enjoyment and tears, all the more enjoyable as I know the writer and know he knows what he’s talking about. I thought it gathered momentum as it went along. It reminded me a little of Carlos Castaneda’s books and also The Alchemist by Paul Coelho which I’ve enjoyed in the past, wondering how much is/was allegorical and how much true or possible. They, and what I’ve previously read of Paul Bura’s, set the scene for much deeper enjoyment.

“Can’t put it down, even going back over it several times. You pause, move posts from pros to poetry. You can’t help being a poet. It is you, through and through and I notice that you only speak/write of what you’ve experienced [Apart from the calling of the fishes! PB] and that is out of this world! Literally. The Lemon Tree is SO deeply spiritual.”

HAZEL LEUCHARS. Cranley, Surrey.

“I’ve just finished reading Peter Chisholm ‘The Lemon Tree’ I was completely ‘swept away’ by it all, made part of the story, enfolded by it all. Your descriptive powers are amazing, PLUS I learned from the book too.”

SUE COLE. Devizes, Wiltshire.

“I had breakfast…piece of toast, humus and olives…then I began reading your novel…[humus and olives feature quite often in the book] almost felt I was part of it! Anyway it all felt so right. I have much enjoyed the read and it is clearly a tale that delicately weaves within the spiritual and the physical, yet has powerful presentation. I have to say though, one thing has been overlooked…you might consider [the author] sending the book out together with a good size box of tissues! Seriously though, well done!”

“I have read Paul Bura’s book and found it very enjoyable. I only wish that I could have read it in April 1997. It would have helped a lot back then. I did find the book a little slow at the start, but it more than made up for it as the story unfolded! It is excellent reading for confirming the link between other dimensions.

In my opinion, this book makes absolutely excellent reading for people who have just recently been bereaved.

The author has been able to convey a lot of the things that go on in peoples’ minds who have recently lost a loved one: he also describes the visitation one gets from them [On many an occasion. PB] very well, and positively, I know I have been there!

This book inspires us to believe that people live on and it is this inspiration that people who have been bereaved or will be bereaved need to know. I would highly recommend it, especially for this purpose.”

“Paul Bura’s latest publication, PETER CHISHOLM “The Lemon Tree ”, will touch the hearts of all of us, for most of you now have lost a relative, friend or colleague to cancer. A great love flows through this novel, as we accompany Peter Chisholm on this soul-searching journey, from the Whitstable boatyard and his Kentish home, empty since his pregnant wife Julia died, across the seas to Greece and the secret land of the Moon Goddess.

The stunning imagery woven into the story is akin to the beautiful scenes of ancient myths and legends, as Peter Chisholm’s mentor Nikos, and his guide to the Valley of the Moon, takes him through the mountains to this secret place of healing, and ultimately to The Lemon Tree itself. Paul Bura points out to us, through Nikos Nicolaou (fisherman, shaman and sorcerer) that the world’s artistic creators - musicians, artists and poets - are more open and sensitive to the beauty around them, and the magical energy that abounds, in certain places on this planet.

Paul’s love of mankind and God’s creatures is reflected in the gentle humour of Nikos, acknowledging that humans have weaknesses too, but we all have the Will, like Peter Chisholm, to achieve great things, previously unknown to us. The story shows that we can overcome grief, and craft it into creative and new skills, for which our teacher will appear when the time is right.

It is a story that teaches us of love for all; about respect, trust, faith, and hope; about endurance, the power of the Will and the need to hold certain places sacred, with the knowledge that there is another higher kingdom than Man’s, where guardian entities abound.

If I were a film producer, I would be seriously thinking about turning this story into a screenplay. In the meantime, BBC Radio 4 would do well to broadcast “The Lemon Tree” to its listeners … and who better than Paul Bura himself to read it!”

“loved the book! Just got out of a cold bath – which was HOT when I got into it – having read the second half in one (soaking) session. I thought the characters came through very strongly, and there were some very powerful descriptions of places and people. Nikos in particular, with his mischievous sense of humour (at Peter’s expense) was great. I also really liked Peter’s father, and thought you brought out their relationship very well, in the way that he had to let Peter Chisholm go off on this quest without really understanding it. Lovely. Also how ‘spare’ your descriptions are – but in a good way! They’re straightforward in the telling, in plain language, and usually short sentences, I like that style. It’s very direct. Just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed the book…and let me know about the sequel!”

“Enjoyed your book PETER CHISHOLM ‘The Lemon Tree’ immensely. The short and changing chapters kept ones interest high, although it would still have been high if the chapters had been twice as long. If I had to put the book down till another day, I was eager to pick it up again. I would have to put it - the book - in the Top Ten best reads I have had in my life. The only small criticism is a technical one – re: P.158. The earth doesn’t go around the sun in 24 hours – it takes 365 and a quarter days. The earth turns on its axis once every 24 hours (23 hours and 56 minutes actually). [Oops, now I knew that! Pity my editor didn’t spot it. PB] Other than that small observation I give it 10 OUT OF 10.

“I was not disappointed – not that I thought I would be! It is an excellent book and deserves a very wide readership. I look forward to the sequel in due course. My appreciation and gratitude in large measure, may you long continue to spread the Three L’s [Love N’ Light N’ Laughter]

GRAHAM HOLMAN. East Sussex.

“Just to let you know how much I enjoyed PETER CHISHOLM ‘The Lemon Tree’ So much experience and teaching in it, told in a wonderful way. Your best yet! Thank you so much. And is there a hint of a sequel, too? Hope so.

BARBARA CLARKE. Coventry.

“This is one of the most beautiful and poignant books I have ever read; so much so that I read it through twice within a week’s duration. Truth seems to be portrayed more than fiction giving this book a power of its own: the power to ‘feel’, to hope, to be, to share. It is a remarkable book, one that I shall pick up and read time and again!”

JAMES McCAUL. County Leitrim, Ireland.

“This is a gentle book filled with love, laughter, great sorrow and greater joy and beauty, of gifts given and those remembered and put into use again, of power and helplessness. It’s a story of love both temperal and spiritual, joining both worlds and all worlds reminding us that our “reality” encompasses far more than we can possibly imagine, for if we could we would be living a life far different than most of us now do. Tucked in the centre of this tale is a friendship reminiscent of Carlos and Don Juan, tales of power and oneness, challenge and courage. Filled with devotion and adventure, this book is a must read for it flowed through me so gently and with such love as is rarely seen in print today filling the nooks and crannies of my soul with healing grace, and I wish this for everyone.
